Monthly Stats Report – April 2018
Checking the numbers at the end of each month is addictive. It’s exciting to see what’s working and what’s not.
I feel like the executive of a TV company. “I’m going to axe that series and bring in more of this kind of content.”
I’m astonished that back in November I had just over 3000 channel views and now, only 5 months later it’s up to nearly 16000 views. It seems like such a lot of growth in such a short time.
Total channel views for the Life Channel were up 23% in April. It’s a buzz to see those percentages over 20% every month.
There were 3 videos that performed particularly well.
The 2 x Djuki Mala videos showed solid growth and the Blazing Swan Festival video got a lot of views, mainly because the festival had just finished and everyone was keen to relive the fun.
I axed the Quiz series. It was a lot of fun to do but it didn’t get views and it didn’t attract subscribers. I put the same amount of time into creating 10 quiz questions as I did editing the Blazing Swan video. The Blazing Swan video is 10 minutes long so it got way more views and resulted in a lot of watch time.
Views increased by 21% for the business channel.
The best performing video is still the ‘Correct size for featured image’ video, which is specifically to help people with the Divi theme.
Clearly I need to make more of this kind of content.
I uploaded 4 videos to the business channel in the last 2 days of April. This was because I’d set myself a goal to upload 4 videos and I was going to do that by hook or by crook.
It’s another real advantage to doing an end of month assessment. I’m working for myself so there’s nobody breathing down my neck. The monthly format creates a real deadline. By the end of April, when I hadn’t uploaded videos yet, the pressure was on to create content.
Subscribers have been growing by an average of 2.4% over the last few months.
When Casey Neistat reached 3 million subscribers he talked about how it took him 5 years to reach 1 million subscribers and only 5 months to reach 2 million. It takes a long time to gain traction but once you get going it takes off.
In terms of number of subscribers and watch time I’m about halfway to being eligible for monetisation.
Blazing Swan had a massive impact on my watch time for this month because it was a 10 minute video.
Perth in a Day had plenty of views so it felt like it was really successful, but it was less than 2 minutes long so it didn’t even generate as much watch time as one of my older videos. The longer content makes ALL the difference.
Clearly you need to include some engaging longer content if you want to increase the watch time on your channel.
- 7 new videos on the Life channel – Technically NO, but sort of YES. I intended to do 5 x quiz questions and 2 x proper edits, but I axed the quiz and uploaded 3 proper edits instead.
- At least two of those videos a ‘proper edit’ – YES
- 10 new subscribers on the Life channel – YES – 13
- 4 new videos on the Business channel – YES
- 3 new subscribers on the Business channel – NO
Goals & Targets for May 2018
- 4 new videos on the Life channel
- 10 new subscribers on the Life channel
- 4 new videos on the Business channel
- 3 new subscribers on the Business channel
The monthly review is so important. It provides encouragement about aspects that are going well, and a reminder about areas that need attention.
A dream written down becomes a goal.
A goal broken into chunks becomes a plan.
A plan backed by action gets results.
And thus the dream becomes reality.
